Your company’s blog is not a diary
The purpose of a blog on a company’s website is to:
- Give readers more information about your products, services or company
- Improve your site’s SEO capabilities and ranking on search engines
- Generate discussion and an online community
- Entice readers to return to see any new blog posts.
A blog doesn’t have to be written in the Queen’s English, but you should try to make sure that the tone and language used reflects your company’s image and ethos. It is there for business purposes to provide information and advice, not to relay to your customers what you had for breakfast. You shouldn’t use it as a space to moan about your bad day, to explain that your sister is getting married, or to tell everyone that your dog just jumped over a 4ft fence.
Keep your content relevant to your site. It does not always have to be on products or services that you sell, but should still be on the same topic. For example, if you sell garden furniture or gardening equipment, you could have a blog post on growing vegetables at home. If you provide security services, you could have a current news blog about thefts around the country.
Remember, your blog is there for your potential customers, and you want them to be interested in you enough that they decide to click around your site, and not navigate away from the page as soon as they’ve finished reading it
