Writing articles for an online readership
Writing any type of content for a website is different when compared to other forms of writing. An Internet user is a certain kind of individual who prefers to scan web pages rather than read them in-depth, word by word. Therefore, with this in mind, you need to tailor your approach accordingly.
Many businesses nowadays decide to present relevant industry news and advice on their products and services through a blog, which is often accessible on their website. The articles may vary in their style and content, but most have a common aim in attempting to appeal to both customers and potential customers alike.
There are some blog articles written just to provide an interesting insight into a topic, but they will still follow certain guidelines different to those used when writing articles for print. You will see that many articles use headings to put their main points across, use easy to read paragraph structures and break up the text using bullet points and bold characters every now and then.
When writing for an online readership, it is therefore imperative that you consider things from their point of view. Would you like to sift through reams of jumbled text and wandering sentences? No? Well, neither do they. Entice your target audience by making your blog posts interesting and relevant, but above all they will not serve their purpose unless they are easy to scan.
