Interesting online statistics

There are some interesting stats at the moment which show the influence of the internet and social media on all our lives and we have decided to share some of these with you here:

Facebook

Facebook is accessed by over 200 million users via their mobile devices, while 250 million active Facebook users log on every day. When you compare this to the population of the UK, which is approximately 70 million, it really puts this figure into perspective.

Ebuyer

Two days ago, Ebuyer held a lunch-time sale on PS3 consoles. In that time Ebuyer reported that they had received 25,000 visits to the site within the first 10 minutes of the sale starting.

The Irish Internet Industry

Earlier this year, AMAS published some research on behalf of IIA (Irish Internet Association) showing that online sales account for 26% of turnover for Irish firms. This is a greater percentage than in any other country.

Here are some other general internet stats for you:

  • Over 210 billion emails are sent out daily
  • Three million images are uploaded to Flickr each day
  • 900,000 new blogs are posted every day
  • 13.9 billion minutes Facebook users spent on the site in April 2009
  • YouTube – now the second largest search engine on the web
  • 96% of 18-36 year olds are on a social network.

According to comScore figures (December 2009) for the number of search queries:

  • Google: 88 billion per month
  • Twitter: 19 billion per month
  • Yahoo: 9.4 billion per month
  • Bing: 4.1 billion per month

All these stats confirm just how important the internet is for today’s economy.
